How to Prepare for a Rainy Day Wedding

It’s the thought of muddy clothes, drenched hair and freezing cold weather that to most couples, is not the ideal wedding day scenario. Unfortunately it doesn’t matter how much time you spend preparing for your wedding, the weather will always be the one thing you have no control over. But who’s to say overcast weather has to ruin the day? When you have a rainy-day backup plan prepared, the day will remain just as perfect as planned. We’ve compiled a list of ways you can best prepare yourself for a rainy wedding day!

How to Be Prepared

Prepare Cute Umbrellas for Yourself and Guests

Translucent umbrellas are preferred by photographers as they wont cover the view or cast shadows on your face. We’ve even seen couples with customised ‘Mr and Mrs’ umbrellas – so cute!

Prepare for Cold Temperatures

This means creating a warm environment in whatever ways possible. Include cosy throws, warm drinks and outdoor heaters.

Bridal Rain Boots

Rain boots are a fun way to stay comfortable on your wedding day, especially if any of it is outdoors. White boots are the most common for obvious reasons, but who’s stopping you from having some fun with it? You could even match with your partner!

Keep Your Guests Dry

We recommend providing ponchos and cotton towels for guests. If you’re moving indoors after being in the rain, your guests will love being given something to help dry themselves and freshen up for the continuation of the day.

Weather Proof Your Wedding Dress

Did you know you can ask your dry cleaner to weather proof your wedding dress so that most water will slide off instead of being absorbed. We recommend doing this, especially on the hem. If you’re really worried about the water and mud, you could even opt for a shorter wedding dress

Ask Your Vendors About Bad Weather Policies

A good vendor should be able to devise strategies for worst case scenarios. Make sure you agree on a wet weather option with your venue and/or coordinator ahead of time.

Consider Event Insurance

If you’re considering wedding insurance, we recommend buying it as soon as you have secured a date and booked a venue. If you buy it too late, some companies policies change.

Real Bride Advice

Real bride Madison wears #ZB8305

Our real bride’s Madison and Katie recently shared some rainy day wedding advice with us:

Madison said “My BIGGEST piece of advice to future brides, is to make sure to get a great group of vendors and to TRUST them on your big day. On our wedding day, it DOWN POURED the entire day. We were going to have our ceremony and cocktail hour outside with the reception inside. Instead, we had to move everything indoors. Even though it was not what I imagined at all, our vendors made our day one of the best and something that we will never forget."

Katie said "My advice to future brides is enjoy every minute, take some time out with your partner and soak it all in. Also don’t let the weather effect your big day, we were so worried about it raining on our wedding day and guess what….It rained!! However, we embraced the rain and it made some of the most beautiful wedding photos (which are my favourites)."

Embrace the rain for magical photos!

The only thing left for you to do is to just embrace whatever weather you are given for your day. One of the best things about a rainy day wedding is the unique and dreamy wedding photos you can get :)
